January 5, 1998
IBM is introducing a 275 MHz PowerPC 750 microprocessor.
The new chip -- the fastest and most powerful version of the PowerPC 750 microprocessor, which was introduced
last year -- is now shipping to IBM customers for Mac OSTM applications. IBM expects that products incorporating
the new processor, such as upgrade cards and systems, will be introduced by its customers over the next several months.
Among the first applications of the 275 MHz PowerPC 750 microprocessor will be CPU upgrade cards from Newer Technologies
of Wichita, KS and Interware Co., Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan.
"We are pleased to be among the first IBM customers to use the 275 MHz PowerPC 750 processor in our Booster 750 series
of CPU upgrade card products," said Mr. Toshio Nakashima, president and CEO of Interware. "The outstanding performance
of our Booster G3 275 product, with the PowerPC 750 processor and its high-speed backside L2 cache, will offer Mac systems
users a compelling upgrade option."
"As a leader in CPU performance enhancement products, Newer Technology is pleased that our strong relationship with IBM
has afforded us the opportunity to help bring IBM's PowerPC 750 microprocessor G3 technology to market," says
James P. Wiebe, president and CEO, of Newer Technology. "The addition of our new MAXpowr G3 750 CPU upgrade card
running at 275 MHz will provide our customers with the ultimate in leading-edge microprocessor performance."
The price of the 275 MHz PowerPC 750 processor is $520 U.S. dollars in quantities of 1000 or more.
