SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 19, 2000 - Intel Corporation today
introduced five new mobile processors that deliver the industry's
highest performance across all notebook PC designs: full-size,
thin-and-light and ultra-portable. Intel also extended its low power
technologies with these new products, including the first mobile
Intel?Pentium?III processor that consumes less than one watt of
power on average. **
These new products are shipping in volume today and are enabling
a wide range of innovative PC designs from leading manufacturers.
"Intel continues to deliver the highest performance across all
mobile PC segments," said Frank
Spindler, vice president, and general manager of Intel's Mobile
Platforms Group. "By combining Intel SpeedStep?technology with
ultra low voltage technology, we are delivering processors consuming
less than one watt of average power, bringing high performance to
today's smallest notebook designs."
Five New Mobile Processors The new mobile Pentium III
processor with Intel?SpeedStep?technology at 750 MHz is the
fastest mobile processor available. The processor enables the
highest performing, full-size notebook PCs that can also serve as an
alternative to a high-performance desktop system. Averaging less
than 2 watts** of power consumption in Battery Optimized Mode, the
processor is also suitable for thin-and-light notebook designs.
The new low power mobile Pentium III processor 600 MHz features
Intel SpeedStep technology and ultra low voltage operation. The
processor operates on only 1.1 volts and consumes less than 1 watt
of average power in Battery Optimized Mode, bringing high
performance to ultra-portable notebook PCs weighing less than three
pounds and measuring only about one inch in height.
Intel also introduced mobile Intel Celeron processors at 650 and
600 MHz, bringing the industry's highest performance to the new
value mobile PC segment.
A new mobile Intel Celeron processor at 500 MHz offers 1.35 volt
operation to enable ultra-portable mobile systems at value price
points.
Intel Low Power Technology Intel mobile processors are
specially engineered to meet the performance, power, cooling and
size requirements of mobile PCs. Intel's 0.18-micron process
technology enables processors running as low as 1.1 volt. Intel
SpeedStep technology featured in mobile Pentium III processors
automatically detects whether AC power is available and scales the
clock frequency to help users achieve the optimum balance between
performance and battery savings. In addition, Intel's QuickStart
technology can power down the processor to less than half a watt,
regardless of the application being used -- even between keystrokes.
Intel's advanced cooling and packaging technology enables high
performance in today's smallest and lightest notebook PC designs.
Specifications and Pricing All mobile Pentium III
processors feature a 100 MHz system bus, 256 Kilobyte full-speed
Advanced Transfer Cache, Advanced System Buffering and Streaming
SIMD extensions. These features combine to enable the highest
performing mobile PCs available in the marketplace.
